Mainstreet Trading Company – St Boswells, Scottish Borders UK
Describe your venue’s atmosphere:
Neil Gaiman described Mainstreet Trading as “a kind of dream bookshop and small town cafe”. Airy and bright, we’re lucky to have lots of space to display many of our books, and large windows that we use for impressive window displays. The cafe is frequently busy, but the atmosphere is always welcoming and during the times when its a little bit quieter, we’re a haven in which to lose yourself in good book after good book.
How does your shop stand out in your community and among other coffee shops?
St Boswells isn’t a large town, so we attract people from far and wide with our coffee, cakes and scones. We’ve become a destination; with books, gifts and antiques in addition to the cafe, there’s something for everyone. We pride ourselves on the quality of our coffee which is fair-trade 100% arabica organic beans, supplied by Darlingtons.
How do you plan to display Sips Card in your venue?
With so much space, we’re lucky enough to have a variety of options for display. We’ve a long bar and plenty of tables to leave them on and we’ll put them next to the till to give to customers having takeaway coffee.
What is your beverage of choice?
Like the French diplomat Talleyrand, I like coffee “black as the devil, hot as hell, pure as an angel, and sweet as love.”
